Maps Software |

|
Under funding
from the National Easter Seals Foundation and the US Federal
Transportation Agency (Project Action), Baruch College CCVIP
and Touch Graphics are creating software to be marketed to transit
properties around the United States who wish to create their
own accessible maps for their visually impaired ridership. The
system acts as an overlay to AutoCAD; it includes custom menus
and macros, libraries of standardized tactile symbol blocks,
and complete documentation and guidelines for map design. Finished
computer files will be sent back to Touchgraphics in New York
City for engraving, moldmaking and mass production thermoforming.
The system is being piloted by transit groups in Tacoma, Washington;
Newark, New Jersey; and Nassau County, New York. An article
has appeared in Thresholds 19 from 1999 describing this project
in more detail. Please
