Clockendar
is a signage concept for posting parking regulations and for public display
of other temporally-structured data. This idea exemplifies the principles
of Universal design, which instructs us to create products that accommodate
people with a diverse range of abilities and preferences. Clockendar communicates
conceptually difficult overlaying conditions and rules with new clarity.
Local-language literacy is not required to read and obey these signs,
leading to better compliance and improved traffic flow.
While Clockendar is, for now, purely theoretical,
its simplicity and intuitive format suggests an approach to public signage
that may have further implications in a world that is becoming more and
more confusing.
