In a recent development, Touch Graphics has demonstrated a new idea in display of touchable models. We produced an expermental version of the Carroll Center Talking Campus Model and painted it entirely white. Then, we projected down on to the white surface with a rendered image of the campus map. As various buildings are touched, the model illumination dims, except for a spotlight to highlight the thing that was touched.
This approach to information display may improve comprehension of a complicated three-dimensional representation for a very wide audience, and will be the subject of further experimentation and refinement.
