The tactile images employ a variety of effects to promote good comprehension; depth effects are achieved by varying the height of relief of raised lines, and texture fills help improve awareness of figure-ground distinctions.
The pictures can also be color-printed, so that a partially-sighted
viewer can use a combination of vision and touch sense.
Many graphics include verbal descriptions that explain the content of the
images and orient the reader for efficient tactile examination; this text
