Audio-Tactile Statstics Courseware

statistic sheet

A sample plate, showing a lesson on measures of center.

Touch Graphics, in collaboration with Baruch College Computer Center for Visually Impaired People, was awarded a grant from the US Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) to create an interactive workbook for college-level statistics.
  • Students place tactile graphic sheet showing graphs, diagrams and other imagery on the TTT, then listen as the narrator explains concepts and techniques for manipulating and making sense of data.
  • As with all applications for the TTT, students are able to press features of the graphics to hear explanatory audio tags, to help them grasp the ideas being illustrated.
  • The workbook includes many interactive experiences, in which the student is asked to demonstrate mastery of the material through chapter-end quizzes, or to add data points to a graphic to find out how new information affects calculations.
