NYC Subway Maps |
|
Touch
Graphics, Inc. is collaborating with Smith Kettlewell Eye Research
Institute and Baruch College Computer Center for Visually Impaired
People to demonstrate a new way to think about transit maps. The
project will include the design, implementation and evaluation
of a portable universal map system for the NYC subway system.
As a first test, we will produce a map of the 1-2-3 line that
runs from the North Bronx, to Utopia Parkway in Brooklyn, and
beyond. This work seeks to introduce an intuitive orientation
and way-finding guide that makes it easier for some disabled riders
to navigate independently. A usability study will take place in
September of 2008, with findings to be discussed at the CSUN Conference
in March of 2009.
